Redmi India has launched the Redmi 8 as a successor to the Redmi 7. The new smartphone hosts a waterdrop-style display notch, together with a dual rear camera setup, both of which are similar to the Redmi 7. The new upgrades on offer are:
- New Aura Mirror design at the rear
- USB Type-C port
- 5,000mAh battery
Priced at INR 7,999 for the 3GB/32GB variant, the new handset is also available in a 4GB/64GB version, which is priced at INR 8,999. However, there is an introductory price for the first 5 million units of the 4GB/64GB version, and will be priced at INR 7,999. Also, users who purchase the 3GB version, will automatically get upgraded to the 4GB variant.
The Redmi 8 is available in 3 colors namely, Oynx Black, Ruby Red and Sapphire Blue and will get a splash-resistant P2i coating. The smartphone will be available from October 12 across Flipkart, Mi Home stores and via Mi.com.

The Redmi 8 is a dual- Nano SIM smartphone that runs on Android 9 Pie with MIUI10. It features a 6.22-inch HD+ waterdrop-style display notch with Corning Glass 5 protection, is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC and has a fingerprint sensor at the rear.
The newly launched smartphone sports a dual rear camera setup, which includes a 12MP Sony IMX363 primary sensor with a f/1.8 lens and a 2MP depth sensor. They come preloaded with AI Portrait and AI Scene Detection features and can recognize 33 scene categories. On the front side, the Redmi 8 hosts an 8MP camera sensor, which has AI powered features, including Face Unlock.
The new handset has 64GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded for up to 512Gb, with the help of a microSD card. In terms of connectivity options, the handset has support for 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, GPS/ A-GPS, infrared, wireless FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port.
Keeping the new smartphone working is a massive 5,000mAh battery, that supports 18W fast charging.
