The much anticipated smartphone from Xiaomi, the Mi 9 was launched at an event in Beijing, China. The latest release comes as a successor to last year’s Mi 8. Mi 9 sports an all-curved design along with a holographic illusion finish and comes with a multi-functional NFC chip as well as a dual-frequency GPS module. Launched in Beijing, China, the price for the Xiaomi Mi 9 has been set at CNY 2,999 (approx. INR 31,800) for the 6GB/128GB storage model, while the 8GB/128GB storage variant comes at a price of CNY 3,299 (approx. INR 34,900).
The second smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 9 Transparent Edition bears a price tag of CNY 3,999 (approx. INR 42,300), whereas the third model to be launched, the Mi 9 SE carries a price tag of CNY 1,999 (approx. INR 21,200) for the 64Gb storage model. It also comes in a 128GB storage variant which is priced at CNY 2,299 (approx. INR 24,350).
Along with the smartphone models, Xiaomi also unveiled a 20W Mi Wireless Charger with a double cooling system. The charger comes with backward compatibility, which means that it can charge other wireless charging-supported devices. It comes with a price tag of CNY 99 (approx. INR 1,050). A wireless car charger, again a 20W Mi Wireless Car Charger was revealed at CNY 169 ( approx. INR 1,800). For all those who are fond of Mi Power Banks, Xiaomi did not let them down. The Chinese company also unveiled a 10000mAH Mi Wireless Power Bank at CNY 149 (approx. INR 1,600).

The newly launched Mi 9 comes with a dedicated AI button that lets users switch on Google Assistant, something similar to what was featured on the LG G7 ThinQ. The dedicated button works with proprietary Xiao AI in China.

If comparisons are made with last year’s Mi 8, this year’s flagship smartphone has a 40% thinner chin, that covers just 3.6mm. The last two features mentioned above help enable a 90.7 percent screen-to-body ratio for the Mi 9. The camera in Mi 9 also has a Moon mode that comes with an optimized experience for TikTok users and is rumored to obtain an overall score of 107 from DxOMark team.
Mi 9 supports a dual-SIM(Nano) and runs on Anroid 9 Pie with MIUI 10 on top, featuring a 6.39-inch full-HD+ Samsung AMOLED display along with Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection, a waterdrop-style notch and 600 nits of brightness. Powering the smartphones is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, coupled with Andreno 640 GPU and 6GB and 8GB LPDDR4X RAM options.
When it comes to the camera optics, the newly launched Mi 9 has a triple camera setup that houses a 48MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor with a 1.0-micron pixel size and an f/2.2 lens. This primary sensor also supports a four-in-one pixel (12MP effective pixels). The secondary sensor has a 16MP Sony IMX481 along with a combination of ultra-wide and macro lens with a f/2.2 lens and a FoV(field-of-view) of 117 degrees. The smartphone also has a tertiary sensor with a 12MP sensor and a f/2.2 telephoto lens. As far as selfies are concerned, there is a 20MP selfie camera at the front to take care of those amazing images.
Connectivity options on the Mi 9 include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, IR blaster, and a USB Type-C port. The storage option on the Mi 9 is 128GB of UFS2.1+ . In order to carry out your daily functions, there needs to be a full-charged battery. The Mi 9 packs a 3,300mAH battery that supports 20W wireless charging alongside 27W wired fast charging support. The handset is of 7.61mm thickness.
The Mi 9 Transparent Edition has a similar hardware to the Mi 9, with a touch of added options. The additions are in terms of RAM, wherein the Transparent Edition gets 12GB of RAM and a seven piece lens with a f/1.47 aperture on top pf the primary sensor. Also, the entire surface of the smartphone is transparent black.
Coming to the Mi 9 SE, it is a little contrast to both the above smartphones. It features a 5.97-inch Samsung AMOLED display and is also powered by a Snapdragon 712 SoC, paired with Adreno 616 GPU and 6GB RAM. The Mi 9 SE too features a triple rear camera setup that includes a 48MP primary sensor, a 8MP secondary sensor and a 13MP tertiary sensor. The battery is of 3,070mAH and supports 18W fast charging.
